Education Perfect are proud to offer the first online interactive resources to support the new Aotearoa NZ Histories curriculum.
Aotearoa NZ Histories will challenge traditional versions of our past by placing hītori Māori as the foundational history of our country and by exploring the impact of colonisation and the exercise of power on its people.
Within these lessons, you can guide your ākonga through a variety of pathways - starting with the earliest tūpuna crossing Moana-nui-a-Kiwa 3,000 years ago in ‘Early Aotearoa’, through Early Contact’ and the life of Te Tiriti - its birth, signing, as well as short and long-term impact.
On top of this, we have a module of eight ‘Being a Historian’ skills lessons that introduce your ākonga to some of the historian’s tools, such as: Critical Thinking, How to Use Historical Sources, and Considering Te Ao Māori.
These 24 lessons, based on the draft curriculum, are aimed at Years 7-10 and were designed to help kura/schools to transition through 2022. To coincide with full implementation in 2023, we plan to offer a complete curriculum-aligned package, written by history teachers in consultation with tangata whenua.
